The Chinese University Press
The Chinese University Press was established in 1977 as the publishing house of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is a non-profit making organization devoted to the advancement, conservation, and dissemination of knowledge, as well as the promotion of scholastic interchange between the Chinese and other cultures. The Press publishes more than forty titles a year and carries well over 800 titles in its backlist, and has established itself as a notable publisher of scholarly publications on Chinese culture as well as China and Hong Kong studies. Many world-renowned scholars, for example, Derk Bodde, P. T. Ho, Hsu Cho-yun and Stuart R. Schram have had their books published here, not to mention the esteemed scholars of our University such as D. C. Lau, Yao Tsung-I, Hu Shu-ying and some of our colleagues. The Press has broadened its scope in recent years to include titles on management, education, social and natural sciences and even medicine in line with the evolution of our University. Titles of general and educational interest have been added to the list since 1988; and an Audio-Visual Division was also added as part of the publication programme. The Press today not only can publish academic books and journals to be distributed worldwide, but can also commission general titles for the reading public in Hong Kong. Recently the Press has further expanded its publishing programme to include electronic publications.To strengthen our academic links and to enhance the visibility of our publications on an international scale, the Press has co-published titles with the best academic publishers, universities and academic institutions over the world. It has also entered into joint publication arrangements with commercial publishers in the United States, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Holland, Germany, and Australia, etc. The Press is a member of the Association for Asian Studies, the International Association of Scholarly Publishers, and the Society for Scholarly Publishing. It is also an international member of the Association of American University Presses.
